Taobao – www.taobao.com is the largest online retail website in the Asia-Pacific region. It was founded by Alibaba Group in mayo 2003.
Taobao.com is a popular online shopping and retail platform in China, with nearly 500 million registered users and more than 60 million regular visitors every day. At the same time, the number of online products per day has exceeded 800 million, with an average of 48,000pcs sold per minute.
It has also become one of the world's leading and well-established e-commerce trading platforms.
By the end of 2011, Taobao's single-day transaction volume peaked at 4.38 billion RMB, creating 2.708 million direct and full employment opportunities. With the expansion of the scale of Taobao and the increase in the number of users, Taobao has also transformed from a single C2C online marketplace into an integrated retail circle that includes multiple e-commerce models such as C2C, group buying, distribution, auctions, and secondhand & used products.
On marzo 15, 2016, China’s 315 Party announced that Taobao merchants were committing fraudulent acts against consumers such as click farming – (false transaction records, no money and no goods with five-star reviews).
On marzo 29, 2016, Zhang Yong, CEO of Alibaba Group, clarified the strategy for Taobao’s future: Community, content and local life are the three major directions.
On agosto 8, 2018, Alibaba Taobao revealed that it will enter the field of MR (mixed reality) shopping, and will soon launch a product-Taobao buy at the 2018 Art Festival.
On diciembre 12, 2019, the “Huiju.com · 2019 Hurun Brand List” was released, and Taobao ranked fourth with a brand value of 300 billion RMB.
On octubre 12, 2021, Taobao has officially launched the “elder model” in the latest version (10.4.10) released before 11.11.
