The Union of the Comoros, commonly known as the Comoros, is an African Arab island nation located in the northern part of the Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean, between Mozambique and Madagascar. The main territories are three volcanic islands: Grande Comore, Mohéli and Anjouan. The government of the Union of the Comoros claims that the French-ruled island of Mayotte also belongs to the Comoros. The territory of the Comoros also includes many other small islands.
