The Republic of Uzbekistan, commonly known as Uzbekistan, is a landlocked country located in Central Asia. Bordered by Turkmenistan to the southwest, Afghanistan to the south, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to the east, and Kazakhstan to the north and west, Uzbekistan is one of the world’s two doubly landlocked countries, known in ancient times as the Middle River Region, with the Syr Darya and Amu Darya rivers running through most of the country and the Ferghana Basin, where the capital is located, being the most densely populated region in Central Asia. Uzbekistan is the world’s sixth largest cotton producer, the second largest cotton exporter, and the seventh largest gold producer in the world.
